Adventuring the Fruitarian Frontier

Today marks day 1 of a fruitarian diet! Quite an undertaking for someone so used to meats and cooked grains. I embark on this journey with my soul mate and fiancé, Tinah, who has attempted this diet on and off for several years. Ideally it will be easier for the both of us to accomplish together than individually!

It is my hope to document this diet as best I can. My current physical statistics:

Weight: 155 lb.
Height: 5'11"
Waist Size: 32"
Body Type: Average/somewhat muscular (I train regularly in an amateur boxing program)

Embarrassing self-portrait #1:

What I Ate Today (5/2/2010):

Morning/afternoon (late start!):
- A few tangerines
- 1 Ataulfo mango
- Cantaloupe smoothie:

Impression: Looks delicious but was too foamy for my preference. Future attempts will probably involve frozen cantaloupe slices (with less added ice), or juicing.
- Green grapes (about a cup's worth)

Late afternoon:
- Mushroom salsa:

Ingredients: Mushrooms, chives, grape tomatoes, cucumber, olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, onion, serrano pepper, ACV (apple cider vinegar).
Impression:
Loved the mushrooms, found it too spicy (Tinah looooooves serrano peppers), thought the lemon juice went very well with the mushrooms and chives. ACV was too much.

- Sweet Fruit Smoothie:

Ingredients: Two Ataulfo mangoes, 1/3rd whole pineapple, 3 seeded dates, 1 banana
Impression: Delicious! Future attempts will involve frozen ingredients and possibly the addition of some ice.

Evening:
- Almond milk "cereal" (by Ani Phyo):

Ingredients: Almond milk: water, soaked almonds, dates. Cereal: 1 fuji apple, raisins, sunflower seeds, flax seeds, soaked buckwheat groats (we didn't give them enough time to dehydrate), 1/2 a banana.
Impression: Very delicious! Future attempts will involve fully dehydrated buckwheat groats for a satisfying crisp.

So that marks the end of day 1! Not a true fruitarian diet yet; we introduced many veggies, nuts, greens, and some oils. Still, a definite step in the right direction.
